Elkader Register, Thur., 31 July 1924. From the North Iowa Times, undated.
Isaac H. Miles was born in Castile, N.Y., July 26, 1855, and died in St. Louis, Mo., July 16, 1924.
Most of his life was spent in Clayton County. He attended the Chicago Homeopathic College,, graduating in medicine in 1888, and located in McGregor for the practice of his profession in 1889, coming here as a young man full of enthusiasm and courage to start on his life work.
On April 28, 1892, at Elkader, occurred the marriage of Dr. I. H. Miles and Miss Helen E. Williamson, and they made their home in the white brick dwelling house on Ann Street, which was the Doctor's home until his death. Mrs. Miles passed away in 1915, and since then the Doctor has lived alone, or has with him his sister, Mrs. Williamson. The past few years his niece, Mrs. Ruth Harriet Congdon, has been his homekeeper.
For several years Dr. Miles has been in failing health, necessitating treatment at the sanitarium in various places and recently his condition became worse and he left Sunday for the Sanitarium at St. Louis, where before he had been benefitted. However, he was evidently worse off than he thought, for his death occurred in the Hotel, before he could get to the Sanitarium, heart disease being the report of the Doctor in attendance.
Dr. Miles was a genial wholesouled fellow, who was popular with his friends, and his patients were always his staunch friends and admirers. When in the prime of his manhood he was considered a very successful practitioner, his disposition and ability making his services valuable in the sickroom.
He was known as a good fellow, a pleasant companion among his large list of friends, who will miss him now that he has passed away.
Dr. Miles is survived by his sister, Mrs. Williamson, and her son, Miles Williamson of Elkader; his brother, M. Miles, of Arlington; and his niece, Mrs. Ruth Harriet Congdon, of McGregor, besides many other relatives.
The remains arrived here Saturday night, and after services at his late home were taken to Elkader to be laid to rest beside his wife, Rev. J. F. Parsons was the officiating clergyman, many friends and relatives being present to do the last sad honors.- North Iowa Times.
