Elkader Register, Thur., 19 June 1924.

Gertrude Rogers, daughter of Samuel and Ellen Rogers, was born June 23, 1888, at North Leverton, England. She was united in marriage to Arthur S. Chappell at her parent's home in North Leverton, May 15th, 1913. She came with her husband to Stockton, Manitoba, Canada, the same year. The following year they came to Volga, Iowa, and have lived in this vicinity ever since. She was the mother of four children, George Arthur, Hallie Marie, Ellen Bernice, and Dorothy Mae. She had been in poor health for several years and passed away at her home June 6, 1924. She leaves beside her husband and children: her father Samuel Rogers, North Leverton, England; three sisters, Mrs. Louis Pierce, Surto_, Eng.; Mrs. Nellie Davidson, Worksop, Eng.; Mrs. Dorothy Warburton, North Leverton, Eng.; four brothers, Herbert Rogers, Scathworth, Eng.; Thomas Rogers, Retford, Eng.; Samuel Rogers, Ethelton, Saskatchean, Canada; Lenard Rogers, Stenbro, Manitoba, Canada; beside other relatives and many friends. Funeral services were held Tuesday afternoon June 10th at the Methodist church, Rev. H. A. Crumb officiating.

The pall bearers were Walter Everett, Edwin Everett, James Bowels, D. J. Crain, Ted Whitford and Cecil Thyer. Mrs. Chappell will be greatly missed as she was loved by all who knew her, was an earnest Christian and a home loving woman although she had poor health for a number of years. She always had a smile for those she came in contact with, had a very kind disposition always desiring to do right in all that she did. The sorrowing family have the sympathy of all.
