Elkader Register, Thur., 3 July 1924. Strawberry Point column.
The death of Mrs. Caroline Stapel Alderson occurred at her home Sunday morning after a lingering illness. Mrs. Stapel Alderson has been ailing for a number of weeks but was up and around most of the time until about three weeks ago she gradually grew worse and death relieved her of her sufferings. Before her sickness she was ever ready to help those in trouble and many a night she would sit by the bedside of a sick person. Her work is done but her memory will ever remain. She leaves eight children to mourn the loss of a kind mother: Mrs. Lena Schoengat, Mrs. Bertha Peters and Ferdinand Stapel of this place; Fred Stapel of Davis Junction, Ill.; Mrs. Alice Steils of Moline, Ill.; Arthur and Theodore Stapel of Aurora and Ernest Stapel of Chillicothe, Ohio; besides other relatives and a host of friends. Funeral services occurred in the Lutheran church Wednesday afternoon conducted by the pastor, Rev. Fritsche, who spoke very comforting words to the sorrowing ones.
(Note: She is shown in WPA records as Caroline Stapels, 1848 - 1924.)
