OBITUARY:

Wilhelmina Anna Dorothea Schmidt.

Wilhelmina Anna Dortha Schmidt was born in Clayton County May 20, 1874, the eldest daughter of John and Lena Heiden, and was confirmed at Clayton Center by Rev. Seifert. She grew to womanhood in Read township and was married by Rev. Seifert to William Schmidt on Feb. 25th, 1892, and lived the next two years in Garnavillo, moving to the farm in Farmersburg twp. in 1894 where they resided for 14 years. One year was spent at Lime Springs, Iowa, moving to the village of Farmersburg in 1909, residing here until she passed away June 23rd at 8 a.m. after a short illness but full of suffering. She had become a most patient sufferer for her health had been failing for some sixteen years. Her husband preceded her in death on December 5th, 1917. This union was blessed with four children, one daughter Mrs. Alma Schmidt Homman of Waubay, S. Dakota, and Hilda Schmidt Miller of Elkader. One son Arno died at the age of eight months and Helmuth the youngest who remained at home making a home for himself and mother. She passed away at the age of 50 years, one month and three days. Her father preceded her in death in 1899. A sister Lena died in infancy. A sister Mrs. Henry Wilke Mar. 4, 1910, Mrs. Fred Strein Apr. 8, 1918.

She is survived by six grandchildren, her aged mother, Mrs. Lena Heiden of Farmersburg, one sister Mrs. Sam Olves of Hazen, North Dakota, and two brothers, Fred Heiden Montica, Cal., and John of Farmersburg, to mourn the passing of a kind mother, daughter and sister. She was a hard working woman and a real home maker, there being nothing left undone that would and to the comfort of her family and to that of a neighbor in need of help. She and her son Helmuth had gone to Dakota to visit a daughter. She was taken worse and returned home but a few days before her death. She was a charter member of the Royal Neighbor Lodge 3198 and a faithful worker in the church for any good cause. The funeral services were held from the home at one o'clock on Thursday June 26, to the St. John church with burial in Farmersburg and Wagner cemetery. Conducted by Rev. K. W. Braun of Garnavillo and the Garnavillo choir. There was a large attendance of friends to pay their last respects to the departed.

(Note: A card of thanks was signed by Mrs. Lena Heiden, Mr. Helmuth Schmidt, Mrs. Wm. Hamman, Mrs. Elmer Miller, Mrs. Sam Olvis and Mr. John Heiden.)
