John Dietrich Kurdelmeyer was born in Read township, Clayton County, Iowa, April 5, 1872, and died at his home in Monona, Wednesday, November 23rd, 1910, aged 38 years 7 months and 18 days.
March 28, 1901, he was married to Miss Lenora Hagensick, at Elkader, and in 1904 the family moved to their beautiful home in Monona, where they have since resided.
"Our life full of trouble but our hope in God" can with truth be applied to the life of the deceased. He experienced enough of the sorrow and bitterness of life. His pilgrimage was through much work and toil, through many cares and longings, through many a grief and many a tear. About 7 years ago he felt the first severe attack of rheumatism. Since that time the best of medical skill was employed and every effort made to stay the ravages of the disease but to no avail. Everything that faithful, heartfelt love could think of and everything that the true, strong power of love could do to make easy and beautiful the life of the deceased, was done. Yet in spite of all loving care his feebleness ever increased and on Wednesday, Nov. 23, at 3:15 p.m., the Lord over life and death quietly and gently laid His strong hand upon the restlessly beating heart and stilled it forever.
He leaves to mourn his loss his wife, Lenora, two daughters, Helen and Laurena, his mother Maria Kurdelmeier* his four brothers, Julius, of Denison, Ia.; Louis and Fred, of Monona; and George, of Clayton Center, four sisters, Mrs. Louise Berkmann, of Manila, Ia.; Mrs. Anna Tewes, of Giard township; Mrs. Emma Humke, of Elkader and Mrs. Mathilda Palas, of Luana; besides many other relatives, friends and neighbors.
John Kurdelmeyer was held in high esteem, possessing an even temperment and the soul of honor, true to friends and just to all mankind.
Funeral services were held in the German Lutheran church at Monona, Saturday morning, Nov. 26, Rev. Otto Wappler officiating. Burial took place in the Lutheran cemetery*. -Monona Leader

Mr. and Mrs. Geo. Humpke attended the funeral of the latter's brother, John Kurdelmeyer at Monona last Saturday.--- ---
*Note the deceased's surname and his mother's surname are spelled differently in the obituary.**The obit may be in error - he and his wife Lenora are buried in the Monona City cemetery. It is possible, although unknown by the contributor, that he was originally buried in the Lutheran cemetery and reinterred in the city cemetery when Lenora died in 1970. Both have gravestones in Monona City cemetery.
