KRUSE, BUSH, FICK, BERNHARD, BECKER, KAISER

Funeral services for August Kruse, 84, of Monona, were held Saturday afternoon, Mar. 28, at 2 o'clock in the Methodist Church in Monona with the Rev. E. Wayne Hilmer officiating. Burial was in the city cemetery.

Mr. Kruse died at a nursing home in Cedar Rapids Wednesday, Mar. 25, where he had been a patient for several months.

August, son of Henry and Amelia (Bush) Kruse, was born in Giard Township, Clayton County, Feb. 10, 1875. He was educated in the Clayton County schools, and was confirmed in the Lutheran Church.

In 1901 he married Ida Fick, and to them was born one son, Byron. His wife died in 1912, and in 1916 he was married to Lydia Bernhard Becker.

His early manhood was spent as a farmer. In later years he was a painter and decorator. He was active in the Masonic and Eastern Star lodges and in the Monona Methodist Church, which he served many years as a trustee.

He was preceded in death by his parents, two sisters and one brother. Surviving are: his wife of Monona; his son Byron of Monona; his step-son, Ted Becker of Cedar Rapids; his step-daughter, Ruby Becker of Dubuque; one grandson, David Kruse of Monona; one brother, Will and a sister, Amanda (Mrs. Arno Kaiser) both of Monona.

Music for the service was provided by Mrs. Ben Frese Jr., and Mrs. George Martin, accompanied by Mrs. Ivon J. Schultz, organist. Pallbearers were Kenneth Rash, Arthur Kaiser, Alvin Marting, Edward Haag, Wendell Baskerville and Conrad Lovig.

August is buried w/1st wife Ida in the Monona City cemetery.

His 2nd wife Lydia Bernhard Becker, was born 1/29/1876 at Giard. She died 2/9/1970 in a Dubuque hospital and is buried in Cedar Memorial cemetery, Cedar Rapids, IA. Lydia's 1st husb. Charles L. 'Charley' Becker died in Feb. 1913 & is buried in Burt Twp. Cemetery, Kossuth co. IA
