Ida Brooks, 84, Funeral Saturday
Miss Ida Brooks, 84, died Thursday in the McGregor Community Hospital. She was the last surviving member of the family of Henry and Rebecca Wanzer Brooks, pioneers of McGregor. Her grandfather, A.E. Wanzer, was the second mayor of McGregor in 1858.
Services were held Saturday afternoon in the Congregational church with the Rev. W.O. Crosby officiating. Burial was in the Pleasant Grove cemetery.
Ida Ann Brooks was born in McGregor on November 5, 1872. She lived her entire life here except for one year when the family lived at Chippewa Falls, Wis.
In her early life she worked as a seamstress and was later employed in the Mallard restaurant by her brother, the late Charles M. Brooks. For many years she was secretary of the Pleasant Grove cemetery association.
She was a member of the Congregational church and the Royal Neighbors Lodge.
Surviving are two nephews, Robert Brooks, whom she raised as a son since he was a small child, and Charles Tipp; a niece, Mrs. James (Rebecca Tipp) Canada, all of McGregor, and a grand niece, Roberta Brooks of McGregor, and a grand nephew, Charles F. Brooks of Chatfield, Minn.
Her parents, two brothers and a sister preceded her in death.
