Elkader Register, Thur., 14 Feb. 1924. Fairview column.
Ranford Burdette Palmer, son of Henry and Clarissa Palmer, was born at Jamestown, N.Y., December 31st, 1852, and passed out to his reward Feb. 4th, 1924, aged 72 years, 1 month and 4 days.
The deceased was united in marriage to Amelia Katherine Knee, at Cassville, Wis., on the 17th day of February 1875. Thirteen children were born to this union, three preceding the father in death, Roy Burdette and Dessie Irene in infancy, and Dale Theo. in his 20th year.
Left to mourn his departure are the faithful wife and ten children. The children are: Mrs. G. W. Parker, of Waterloo, Ia.; Mrs. N. L. Hansel, Fredericksburg, Ia.; Mrs. J. W. Hansel, David Palmer, of Garber, Ia.; Albert B. Palmer, of Elkader, Iowa; Mrs. F. E. Bell and Mrs. R. E. Ross, of Earlville, Ia.; Mrs. O. S. Hansell, of Elkport, Iowa; and Henry and Glen, at home. Twenty-five grandchildren; three brothers, Whitman Palmer, of Blair, Washington; Richard and John Palmer, of Spring Valley, Wis.; and one sister, Emma Palmer, of Duluth, Minn., also survive.
He has been a member of the church of the United Brethern in Christ for over forty years. He has been fraternally affiliated with the Modern Woodman of America since April 19th, 1895, a period of 29 years.
Mr. Palmer has been suffering for some months with a serious internal trouble from which he realized in the last weeks there was no hope of recovery. He was remarkably patient through it and enjoyed so much the companionship of his loved ones about him. The end came very peacefully at 7 p.m. Monday, Feb. 4th. He will be greatly missed by all, but especially by his companion who has walked so long by his side. He was a kind and loving husband and father, a splendid citizen and a Christian gentleman.
The funeral services were held at Bethel church on Friday afternoon, Feb. 8th, by his Pastor Rev. F. Brock, and attended by a very large concourse of old friends and neighbors.
His remains were laid to rest in the beautiful Bethel Cemetery, there to await the Resurrection of the just.
