Elkader Register, Thur., 24 Jan. 1924. Local News columns.

(First several words missing.) at the home of his brother, George Heck, and family, in Guttenberg, with whom he had been making his home for the past 37 years, occurred the death of John Heck at the age of 77 years, 2 months and 24 days, the cause of his death being cancer of the stomach.

Deceased was born at Bruemzar Lay, Prussia, Germany, on October 24, 1846, coming to America in 1857, settling in Dubuque county, Iowa. In 1861 he came to Clayton county, settling in Boardman township for a time, thence going to Volga township, where he remained until three years ago, when he came to Guttenberg with his brother, George, and family, where he spent the remainder of his life. His occupation was that of a farmer. He was a faithful member of the Catholic church and was an upright citizen in every respect, being an ambitious man during his entire life, and he was a kind and true brother and friend.

He was never married.

Besides his brother, George Heck, of Guttenberg, many other relatives and friends deeply mourn his death, and he will be sadly missed by all.

Funeral services were held at Guttenberg Monday forenoon and the body arrived here Monday afternoon by train and was laid to rest in St. Joseph's cemetery.
