Thursday, 20 June 1912, Guttenberg Press, p1, c3:
Vernie Mohrmann,
whose death we mentioned in last week’s issue of the Press, was born at Guttenberg on August 28, 1890, and died at Waterloo, Iowa, on June 12, 1912, after a lingering illness. He was 21 years, 9 months and 15 days of age at the time of his death. He was married in this city about 2 years ago to Miss Mertie Schute [Schutte], and the young couple left shortly after their marriage for Waterloo, where they lived until his death and where he was employed as an electrician. Besides his widow he leaves to mourn his untimely death, his father, Herman Mohrmann, two sisters, three brothers and a large circle of relatives and friends, by whom he will be sadly missed, as he was a kind and true husband, son, brother and friend. He was an ambitious and trustworthy young man, his aim being to get to the top of the ladder of success by hard work. He did not give up hopes for recovery until the angel of death called him to that land where all pains are forgotten. All that medical knowledge could suggest and loving hands could do to ward off death was done, but all to no avail. The remains arrived in this city Friday for burial and the funeral was held Sunday, Rev. K. Wm. Braun, of Garnavillo, officiating. Interment was made in the city cemetery. The funeral was very largely attended. May he rest in peace.
_______CARD OF THANKS.
We hereby desire to thank our friends and neighbors, the choir and Rev. Braun for their many acts of kindness and sympathy, also for the beautiful floral offerings during the illness and death of our beloved husband, son and brother.
Mrs. Vernie Mohrmann, Herman Mohrmann and Children.
