WALKE RITES ARE HELD HERE THIS MONDAY
_______

Former Resident of Community Died in Dubuque
_______

Funeral services were held on Monday afternoon, December 28, from the Tuecke funeral chapel for John A. Walke, 78, who died at a Dubuque hospital on Christmas Day following a long illness. The services were conducted by Rev. Ernest Koch, pastor of St. Paul’s Lutheran church, and burial was in the Guttenberg City cemetery.

Mr. Walke, a native of the community, for many years was a blacksmith here and in 1928 moved to Dubuque where he was employed by the Morrison Brothers company as a blacksmith for 16 years until his retirement nine years ago.

Born near Guttenberg January 9, 1875, Mr. Walke married viola La Piere on January 20, 1904, and the couple would have celebrated their Golden Wedding anniversary on January 20. They made their home here until 1928 when they moved to Dubuque.

In addition to Mrs. Walke, Mr. Walke is survived by a daughter, Mrs. Irene Graybill, of Guttenberg, as well as a grandson, Clarence Walke of Dubuque, and a granddaughter, Mrs. Frederick Hoag, also of Dubuque. Also surviving are two sisters, Mrs. John White of Guttenberg and Mrs. Fred Hawkins of Inglewood, California.

He was preceded in death by a son, who died January 5, 1930.

Pallbearers for the service were Harold Walke, Walter Walke, Herman Walke and Kenneth Walke.
