Mrs. Clement C. McCauley, nee Bessie Grady, died suddenly at her home, Bridgeport, Wis., August 13, in her thirty-fifth year. All extend their heartfelt sympathy to her dear husband, whom she leaves with their two year old son, Joseph, and the infant daughter, Dolores Magdalene.
The body was brought to the home of her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Daniel Grady of Monona. She leaves her brothers, John of Marquette, Iowa; Ambrose of Kirkland, Ill.; Andrew and Francis of Monona; her sisters, Mrs. John C. Winters, Pittsburgh, Penn.; Mrs. James Hunter, St. Paul, Minn.; Mrs. Edward E. Milligan, Dubuque, and Mrs. Thomas J. Ormsby, Britt.
As a young lady she began teaching school in Allamakee county, where she endeared herself to her pupils and showed the noble traits of character which later developed and won for her so many friends. She loved all and was loved by all. In social life she was the popular center of activity, which enabled her to extend a cheerful welcome to all who visited her hospitable home. Her winning smile as well as her kind, charming disposition and good judgement in social business affairs will be an inexpressible loss. During life she set us an ideal example by her cheerful and progressive spirit, but by her death she impressed upon us the greatest of all lessons, the love of one for another, but she paid the greatest of all prices, the sacrificing of her life, that we might learn to love and have greater respect for the sacredness of motherhood.
The sad news of her death came as a severe shock which shall long be remembered by her numerous friends who came from many states to pay their respects to her who had so won their hearts. Their sympathy was not merely expressed in words but in sincere heartfelt tears, which bespeaks more than anything else how dearly she was loved.
Among those who came from a distance were the McCauley family of Waucoma, as well as relatives and dear friends from near and far.
The funeral procession was one of the largest that ever entered St. Patrick's Church, Monona. The solemn Requiem Mass was sung by her cousin, Rev. Edward E. Broderick of Chicago, assisted by the pastor, Rev. Jas. McNamara, as deacon and Rev. Robert A. Ormsby of Fairbanks as subdeacon. The practical forethought of Father McNamara was evidenced by his having carefully prepared every detail for the Solemn Requiem Mass, which was so deeply appreciated by all.
The last prayers at the grave were said by Father Ormsby. The remains were laid to rest, to sleep the long sleep of the dead. May she rest in peace.
