Elkader Register, Thur., 20 Dec. 1906. Volga City Views column.

On Wednesday Pat Marten received the sad news that his brother John had been killed in the sand pit at Hudson, Wis. His body will be brought to Volga for interment. He was digging in the bank under the frozen ground and a piece of frozen earth fell on him, killing him instantly.

The funeral of John Martin was held Saturday. Burial in Sacred Heart Cemetery at Volga.
