Augusta Johnson
Funeral services were held Sunday, November 14, for Mrs. Augusta Johnson at her home and later at the Marion Lutheran church, the Rev. S. J. Strandjord officiating. Interment was in the adjoining cemetery. Mrs. Johnson, who was 72 years old, passed away November 11.
Mrs. Johnson was born as Augusta Stake, daughter of Henrick and Anna Kaisa Stake, at Varmstand, Sweden, May 31, 1870. When she was nine years old she came to this country with her parents, brothers and sisters and they settled on a farm in Marion township, Clayton county.
On March 24, 1898, she was united in marriage to Nicholas Johnson and the couple moved to the farm which has been their home ever since. Mr. Johnson passed away June 11, 1942. To this union were born five children, two of whom preceded their parents in death. Three daughters survive: Alma, Mrs. Anton Peterson; Ida, Mrs. Philip Leuchtenmacher, both of St. Olaf, and Nora, Mrs. George Larson of Postville. Also surviving are six grandchildren and a host of other relatives and friends.
Coincidental with the death of her husband was that both passed away on the same day of the month; both passed away at six o'clock in the morning; both funerals were held on the 14th day of the month and on Sundays; both attained the same age, lacking six days; the casket bearers and flower girls were the same people for both funerals with one exception, and the same pastor officiated at both funerals and used the same Bible text, Psalm 23, at each service.
