Elkader Register, Thur., 4 Oct. 1906. Local News column.
On Saturday, Sept. 29th, 1906, at his home in Highland twp., Fredrick Orr, one of the pioneer settlers and probably the oldest man in Clayton County, peacefully passed away at the advanced age of 98 years.
He was born 98 years ago near the city of Omagh, county Tyrone, Ireland. He came to America and located in Maine, where he resided ten years, and in 1849 went to California, but soon returned and settled in Delaware, and then came to Clayton county about 1850 and entered the farm in Highland twp., on which he has since resided.
His companion departed about sixteen years ago and four children, one son, P. J. Orr, and three daughters, Mrs. J. L. Boland, Mrs. J. W. McLaughlin and Miss Margaret Orr, also have passed to that bourne whence none return. He is survived by three sons, John, William H. and Fred C., with whom he made his home, ten grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
Frederick Orr was a man true to his convictions of right and wrong, loyal to home, kindred and friends, and enjoyed a serene old age, possessed of an abiding faith in God and his fellow men, and peacefully passed away from the repose of life to the repose of death but with little or no pain.
Funeral services occurred in St. Joseph's church, this city, on Monday, Rev. J. F. Reilly officiating. Interment in the Catholic cemetery.
Kindred and friends mourn his departure and will sadly miss him, yet with the assurance that it is well with him in eternity.
(Note: Both spellings of his first name were used in his obit.)
