Elkader Register, Thur., 20 Sept. 1906.
At about 5 o'clock last Thursday afternoon, Sept. 13th, 1906, death claimed a precious victim in taking Johnyette Geneva Hempel, the youngest daughter of Mr. and Mrs. John G. Hempel, after an illness of only five days. She was born at Elkader Aug. 30, 1901, and was aged 5 years and 14 days at her departure.
Bright and loving, Johnyette's passing away has almost broken the hearts of her devoted parents and sisters, who idolized her. In the neighborhood she was a favorite for her happy disposition and quiet playfulness. Alas ! We can only mourn and express sympathy. We wish it might afford some consolation.
The funeral was held Saturday afternoon from the house, Rev. A. S. Hock holding a short service, which was very largely attended by sympathizing friends. The interment was in the East Side cemetery, the casket being almost hidden beneath the floral tributes.
Misses Dora Elvidge, Jessie Wilke, Vina Uecker and Lulu Kleinpell served as bearers.
