Funeral services for Martin C. Larson, 73, of Monona were held Wednesday afternoon July 22, in Monona at the Schultz Funeral Home at 1:00 o'clock and at the Norway Lutheran Church at St. Olaf at 2:00 o'clock with Rev. Dr. S. J. Strandjord, pastor, officiating. Burial was in the city cemetery at Monona. Mr. Larson died at the Postville Hospital Sunday afternoon, July 19, at 3:00 o'clock. Death was due to injuries received the night before when he was struck by a car while crossing the street to his home in Monona.

He was born a son of Andrew and Josephine Larson on January 10, 1880 in Marion township, Clayton county. He was baptized and confirmed in the Norway Lutheran church at St. Olaf.

He was married to Louena Peterson on June 25, 1904 at St. Olaf. The couple farmed in this vicinity until February 1942 when they moved to Monona. Since that time Mr. Larson had been a painter and decorator. In recent years he spent much of his time working in his yard and garden.

In addition to his wife he is survived by four children: Clarence M. of Monona; Mrs. Elmer Brockmeier (Adelia) of Postville; Roscoe L. of Elgin; and Aldo M. of Castalia; also four brothers, Peter, Henry and William, of Elkader and John of St. Olaf. He was preceded in death by his parents, two sisters, a brother, and a son, Joseph, who passed away in infancy.

Martin C. Larson and Louena Lorena Peterson had the following children:

Mr. and Mrs. Martin Larson, of Marion twp., mourn the loss of their little son, aged 10 months and two weeks, who died Tuesday evening after a short illness. The funeral was held from the house this afternoon.

ii. CLARENCE MILLARD LARSON was born on 17 Aug 1907 in near Elkader, Iowa. He died on 27 Aug 1992 in Central Community Hospital, Elkader, Iowa. He married Alice M. Plozel, daughter of Joseph Plozel and Mayme Lestina, on 24 Feb 1941 in E.U.B. Parsonage, Monona, Iowa. She was born on 04 Aug 1914 in Clayton County, Iowa. She died on 07 Mar 2005 in Monona, Clayton County, Iowa.

Clarence Millard Larson, son of Martin and Leuna (Peterson) Larson, was born August 17, 1907 in rural Elkader. He received his education in a country school. Clarence was married to Alice Plozel on February 24, 1941 at the E.U.B. parsonage in Monona by Rev. Raduge.

Clarence farmed until 1950. From 1950 to 1970 he did carpentry and painting. He enjoyed doing craft work and repairing antiques.

Clarence died Thursday, August 27, 1992 at Central Community Hospital in Elkader. He was 85.

Preceding him in death were his parents and a sister, Adelia Brockmeyer.

Survivors include his wife, Alice; two brothers, Roscoe Larson of Elkader and Aldo Larson of Castalia; and a host of other relatives and friends.

Funeral services were held Monday, August 31 at 2 p.m. at Schultz's Funeral home in Monona. The Rev. Gary Dobbins officiated and the organist was Florence Evans. Dolores Kammerer was the vocalist. Pallbearers were Dave, Ronald, Andrew and Loren Plozel, Dave and Lorin Schmelzer and Bernell Kliefoth.

Burial was in the Monona City Cemetery. Schultz's Funeral Home of Monona was in charge of arrangements.

Alice M. Larson, 90, Monona, died Monday, March 7, 2005, at the Guttenberg Care Center, Guttenberg, following a short illness. She was born August 4, 1914, in rural Clayton County to Joseph and Mayme (Lestina) Plozel. She was united in marriage to Clarence Larson on February 24, 1941, at E.U.B. Parsonage in Monona by Rev. Raduge. Alice was a homemaker who loved spending time with family and friends, quilting and stamp collecting. Survivors include one niece; four nephews and two sisters-in-law, Wanda Plozel, Monona and Florence Plozel Alice was preceded in death by her parents, her husband on August 27, 1992; two brothers, Eugene and Leonard Plozel and one sister, Leona Plozel in infancy

Survivors include a stepdaughter, Frances Leeman of Guttenberg and a stepson, Paul Peterson of Oelwein.

He was baptized into the Lutheran faith and confirmed in St. Paul Lutheran Church in Monona by the Rev. Veith. He attended the rural school near his home. On November 9, 1939, he was married to Arlene Anna Koenig in the Zion Lutheran Church at Castalia by the Rev. William Striepe. The couple farmed in the Gunder and Postville areas, moving to their present home near Castalia in 1947. He was a member of the Zion Lutheran Church, Castalia, and served three terms on the council as well as serving as church treasurer. He spent a great deal of time on projects including painting the church and refinishing the woodwork in the parsonage.

Survivors include his wife, Arlene of Castalia; a brother, Rosco Larson, of Guttenberg; two nephews, Don Stadtmiller and Gene Stadtmiller; two great-nieces, Sheila Stadtmiller and Senta (Mrs. Christopher) Andre; one great-nephew, Paul Stadtmiller and one great-great-nephew, Charles Strong.

He is preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Joseph and Clarence; and

Arlene Larson

Funeral services for Arlene Larson were held Wednesday, September 19, 2007, at 10:30 a.m. in the Zion Lutheran Church at Castalia, Iowa, with the Reverend Dave L. Lenth officiating. Special music was provided by organist Marlys Hager and Pastor Dave and Sara McGee. The Casket Bearers were Loren Eberling, Donald Gilster, Gerald Hager, Gale Koenig, Robert Schroeder, Dennis Schwinefus, Don Sowers, and Edward Szabo. Burial was in the Postville Cemetery. The Schutte Funeral and Cremation Service of Postville was in charge of arrangements.

Arlene Anna (Koenig) Larson was born March 22, 1918 in the Postville, Iowa Hospital. She passed away, Saturday, September 15, 2007, in University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics at Iowa City, Iowa, at the age of 89 years, 5 months and 23 days.

She was baptized into the Lutheran Faith and confirmed in the Zion Lutheran Church at Castalia, Iowa, in 1932, by the Reverend G. A. Schmidt. Arlene graduated from Postville High School in 1935.

On November 9, 1939 she was married to Aldo Morris Larson in the Zion Lutheran Church at Castalia, by the Reverend William Striepe. The couple farmed in the Gunder and Castalia areas and moved to the Koenig farm near Castalia in 1947. Arlene moved to her present home in Postville in 1994.

Following their retirement from farming, Arlene and Aldo concentrated on their love of refinishing antique furniture and attending auctions. They displayed their furniture and antiques in Decorah, the "School House Antiques" in Marquette, and at their home near Castalia.

Arlene had a witty sense of humor and took pleasure in cutting out jokes and sharing them with relatives and friends. She was proud of the fact that she was one of the oldest members of the Zion Lutheran Church in Castalia.

She is preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Aldo, who died in 1993, and a sister, Georgean Stadtmiller, who died in July of 2007.

Arlene dearly loved and is survived by nephews Don and wife, JoAnn, Gene and wife, Mary Stadtmiller and their children, Senta, Shela, and Paul, and their families, several cousins, and many, many friends.
