Elkader Register, Thur., 13 Sept. 1906.
Again we are called upon to chronicle the death of one of our prominent citizens, Chas. Soll, whose death occurred Saturday evening after an illness of a few days.
Chas. Soll was born at Frederick City, N.J., June 29th, 1854, and in 1857, with his parents, came to Elkader, where he has since resided. He was married to Lena Gehert in October, 1900, who, with his two brothers, Fred H., of Elkader, and Sigmund, are left to mourn his untimely death. Mr. Soll was in the merchantile business here for many years and enjoyed a very good trade. He was mayor one term, village treasurer for three terms and at the time of his death was village treasurer, school treasurer and treasurer of the Elkport Opera House Co., thus showing the high esteem and confidence in which he was held by the people of the community in which he lived. The funeral was held Monday afternoon at the Lutheran church, Rev. Hertel officiating, interment in the Lutheran cemetery. The community extends sympathy to the bereaved relatives.
