Another Pioneer Called By Death.
On Tuesday morning, November 16, 1920, at the home of his son, Mr. and Mrs. John Mueller, in this city occurred the death of Wilhelm Dietrich Mueller, after a short illness, and at the age of 87 years, 8 months and 1 day. The cause of his death was mostly due to old age. Deceased was born at Hanover, Germany, on March 15, 1833, coming to America when 12 years of age, and settling at once at Guttenberg, Clayton County, Iowa. he was married at Guttenberg to Miss Dorothy Sophia Louise Hoffmeier, who preceded him in death about 25 years ago. For a number of years Mr. Mueller was successfully engaged in farming in Jefferson township. After the death of his wife he came to Guttenberg to reside and made his home with his son John and wife, where he always received the best of care, and where he peacefully passed away on last Tuesday morning. Mr. Mueller was a kind and true father and friend, and a true christian man in every respect. He was a man who was ever ready with heart and hand to help those in need, which won him many warm friends, by whom he was held in high regard. He was an ambitious man during his entire life. All that loving hands could do and medical knowledge could suggest, was done for him to ward off death, but all to no avail. His death is deeply mourned by two sons, John and Louis Mueller, of Guttenberg, one daughter, Mrs. Doris Kickbusch, of St. Joe, Idaho, five grandchildren, eight great grandchildren and many other relatives and friends, by whom he will be sadly missed. Funeral services will be held at St. John’s Lutheran Church (of which he was a faithful member) in this city this afternoon at one o’clock. Interment will be made in St. John’s Cemetery in Jefferson township. Rev. J. Janzig will conduct funeral services.
