FRED MUELLER, SR. PASSES TO REWARD
_______

Suffers Stroke of Apoplexy Last Friday; Causing Death Four Hours Later
Burial Monday.

At the home of his son Fred three and a half miles south of Guttenberg Johan Frederick Mueller peacefully passed away last Friday, May 17, 1907, at the ripe old age of 78 years, 10 months and 22 days. He had not been enjoying the best of health the past few years owing to the infirmities of advanced age, but was apparently feeling as well as usual up to within four hours of his death when a stroke of apoplexy rendered his condition beyond hope and which terminated in his death at a few minutes after 9:00 o’clock Friday evening.

Deceased was born in Proettlein, Germany, June 25, 1828, and emigrated to America, arriving at Chicago in 1856. Remaining there one year he concluded to come to Iowa and arrived in Guttenberg in 1857. Soon after he engaged in farming which he followed until a few years ago, when on account of his years, he gave up farm labors to take a well earned rest.

He was married at Ceres Feb. 8, 1861, to Miss Ernstina Buchholz, whose death occurred six years ago. To them six children were born, two sons and four daughters, namely: Mrs. Henry Niehaus, Mrs. Henry Geuder, Fred and Helmuth Mueller, residents of Jefferson township, and Mrs. George Miller of Colesburg and Mrs. George Meyer of Clarksville.

Mr. Miller [sic] was one of Jefferson township’s most prominent farmers and was a man held in the highest esteem by neighbors and acquaintances. He was a musician of considerable talent and was the founder of the original Dittmer orchestra which was a popular organization in this locality during its existence.

The body was laid to rest in St. John’s cemetery near the farm home Monday, the funeral taking place at 1:00 p. m. Attorney Chas. E. Scholz made a few appropriate at the house [sic], bearing upon the honest and upright life of the deceased.
