Thursday, 12 April 1900, Elkader Register, Obituary, p5, c4:

CHARLES CORDS.

On Wednesday, April 4th, 1900, Chas. Cords, after a short illness passed away, at the advanced age of 77 years, 4 months and 2 days. He was born in Mecklenberg, Germany, Dec. 2d, 1822, where he resided until he was 22, when he was united with her who now survives him as his widow. At the age of 30, he with his family came to America and settled at Guttenberg where they lived one year. Then they purchased the farm near Osborne where he has lived for 46 years until his death. He was a successful farmer, a good citizen and a pleasant neighbor, one who will be missed in the community in which he has resided so many years. He leaves a wife, four grown children and a sister besides many friends to mourn his demise. The funeral services were held at the late residence of the deceased in Cox Creek, on the 6th inst., the services being conducted by Rev. G. W. Baxter, pastor of the Congregational church at Elkader, the interment being in the family cemetery near Osborne.
