Sturm, George 1830 - 1906

Elkader Register, Thur., 10 May 1906.

At the family residence in Mederville, at 8 o'clock Sunday evening, death relieved George Sturm of the suffering he has borne for nearly 26 years, and for the past ten years of which he had been almost helpless.

Deceased was born in Weisenfels, Bavaria, Germany, Sept. 16, 1830. He married Barbara Dierback in Bavaria, where their two eldest children were born. In 1868, with his family, he came to Clayton county and settled in Cox Creek twp.

Seven children were born to them, two daughters preceeding the father in death. He is survived by the wife and the following children: Mrs. Margaret Develin, in Idaho; John Ernest, at Osborne; Henry and Charles, at Mederville; and Mrs. Otto Schellschmidt, at Elkader.

The funeral was held Tuesday afternoon at Mederville, Rev. F. Leonhard, of Elkader, officiating.

George Sturm was born in Watertown, Germany, Sept. 16, 1830, therefore he was 76 years old. He died at his home in Mederville May 6, 1906; he was married in Germany to Barbara Stueback.

Seven children were born to them, two dying in early childhood, Mollie and Louisa; five are living, Margret of Develin, Idaho; John of Osborne; Charles and Henry of Mederville, and Katie Schellschmidt of Elkader.

Mr. Sturm has been an invalid for more than 28 years and for 26 of those long years a helpless man.

The funeral took place at his residence and the remains laid to rest by his little girls, gone so many years ago, in the Mederville cemetery on May 7th in the afternoon.
