John Meyer, an old citizen living near Communia, was found dead in bed last Saturday afternoon. He evidently died of old age as he had not been in good health for some time. He was about eighty years of age. The funeral was held at Littleport, Tuesday.

At his home in Volga township on April 28th, occurred the death of John Meier. Deceased was born in Hanover, Germany, April 10th, 1826. He came to Chicago in 1847, where he was married. They then moved to Cedar Falls, Iowa, where they lived a year and then went to Algona, where they took up a homestead, on which the family resided fifteen years. About 1864 they came to Volga township, where they have since resided.
To Mr. and Mrs. Meier were born six children, five of whom, with the aged wife, survives. They are August, in Volga township; Otto, at Partridge, Minn.; John, at Fenton, Ia.; and Mrs. Henry Hostmann and Mrs. Ida Henrichs, of Volga twp.
The funeral was held on Tuesday of last week, Rev. Mr. Hertel, of Elkport, officiating.
