Guttenberg: Johann Frederick Roeben, long-time resident of Clayton county, passed away at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Wilbert Horstman, in Guttenberg, Thursday evening, 8:00 o'clock, at the age of 58 years, 11 months and 21 days, following a week's illness. The cause of death was pneumonia. Mr. Roeben was born in Germany April 24, 1868, later coming to America and settling in Clayton county, Iowa, where he spent the remainder of his life in various parts of this county. Of late he had been making his home with his daughter, Mrs. Wilbert Horstman, here. His wife preceded him in death on April 28, 1905. He is survived by two sons, Fred of Ravenden, Ark., and Martin of Belt, Mont.; eight daughters, Mrs. Chas. Gilbertson and Mrs. Alphonse Marting, of Madison, Wis.; Mrs. Henry Taake and Mrs. Wilbert Horstman, of Guttenberg; Mrs. Freda Moore, of Elkader; Mrs. Rudolf Keller, of Ellis, Kans.; Mrs. Fred Lenth of S___py-Eye, Minn., and Miss Lillian Roeben, of Woodward, Iowa; 29 grandchildren, five great-grandchildren, and many other relatives and friends. The body was taken to the Henry Taake home here on Friday. Funeral services were conducted by the Rev. W. J. F. Adix at St. John's American Lutheran church here on Sunday afternoon, with interment in the cemetery at Garnavillo.
