Mrs. John Downey passed away Saturday, March 3, 1906, at her home three miles southwest of Garnavillo, aged 30 years.

Deceased, whose maiden name was Alice Sheehan, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Patrick Sheehan, was born at West Union, Iowa, in the month of May, 1870*. She grew to womanhood in the community of her birth. Her education was received in the West Union schools and afterward followed school teaching with marked success up to within a short time prior to her marriage to John Downey, a successful farmer of Garnavillo township, and which occurred at West Union, Feb. 10, 1904.

Mrs. Downey's death was caused from consumption, although not hereditary. A year ago last Thanksgiving day, while enroute to Elkader from her home, a severe rain storm was encountered and from which she received a thorough drenching, causing a cold that afterward settled on the lungs, soon reaching a stage beyond medical aid.

Besides the husband who is left to mourn the untimely death of a loving wife, are her mother and one sister, who reside at West Union.

Funeral services were held in St. Joseph's Catholic church at Garnavillo, conducted by Rev. Father Ruedler, Tuesday, March 6, with interment in the Catholic cemetery at Garnavillo.
