Elkader Register, Thur., 8 Mar. 1906. Garnavillo News column.

Johann Conrad Dehn was born in Schnadenbach, Mittelfranken, Bavaria, in 1829, and died Thursday afternoon, March 1st, 1906, of general debility. He emigrated to America in 1853 and the following year took up abode in Clayton C0. In 18__ (looks like 1853 or 1855) He was married to Maria Tewes. To this union were born six children: John, residing on a farm in Clayton twp.; Lena married to William Theodore, also residing in Clayton twp.; Emma married to Mr. Patterson, living in Lincoln, Neb.; William at home; Maria, deceased; and Lydia married to Henry Drussel, Winona Co., Minn., died three months ago.

Mr. Dehn's life was characterized with a great deal of activity. In former years he conducted a lime kiln and brick yard, besides working his farm in Buck Creek. For the past four years he has been leading a retired life. He was honest in all his dealings and through his integrity won the respect of his acquaintances.

His family will experience a great loss through his death, inasmuch as he was a true husband in every sense of the word and a kind and indulgent parent. None the less will the congregation of St. Paul's Lutheran church miss him, as he was one of the most loyal of its members and did all in his power to promote a good cause whenever the opportunity presented itself. Many a friend will treasure his memory for his kind deeds and for the assistance he was ever ready to give. He departed this world willing and at peace with all. May he enjoy the reward of the blessed.

In accordance with his wishes he was buried on Sunday afternoon. A large concourse of friends accompanied the remains to the church, where an impressive service was conducted by Rev. Wm. Braun, and then to the new cemetery, where the weary pilgrim was laid tenderly to rest.

Henry Drussel, of Winona county, Minn.; Wm. Tewes and Henry Kruse, of Monona; and Henry Tewes and Geo. Witte, of Elkader, were present at the funeral.
