Elkader Rengister, Thur., 4 Jan. 1906. Guttenberg column.
Word was received here last week by Mrs. Jane Meehan informing her of the illness of her son, William J. Meehan, in Chicago, and later she received a telegram announcing his death, which occurred at 4:15 o'clock Thursday, Dec. 21. Deceased was born in Brooklyn, N.Y., and was aged about 36 years. He came west with his parents twenty-five years ago. They located on a farm near Clayton, where William grew to manhood. Several years ago he returned east and at Detroit, Mich., learned his trade - that of horseshoer - and which occupation he was following in Chicago for several months prior to his death. His death was caused by diphtheria-pneumonia. The remains were taken in charge and buried at Chicago, Friday, under the auspicies of the horseshoer's union of which deceased was a member. Surviving relatives of deceased are his mother and sister Mayme, of this place, Joseph, of Dubuque, Richard, James and Martin, of near Clayton.
