Monona, Ia. - Funeral services for Mrs. Theodore Sherman, 91, one of the oldest residents of Monona, and the last widow of a Civil war veteran living in Monona, who died at her home here Wednesday, after an illness of nine months, were held Saturday at the Schultz funeral home. The Rev. R.C. Jerrell, pastor of the Methodist church, and the Rev. H.W. Raduege, pastor of the Pilgrim Evangelical church, officiated. Burial was in the city cemetery.

Mrs. Sherman, a daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Edward Murphy, was born in Hamilton, Ind., on July 29, 1853, and came to Monona with her parents when she was seven years old. She spent her early girlhood in Monona, later moving with her parents to a farm west of Monona.

On Jan. 2, 1876, she was married to Theodore Sherman, at Prairie du Chien, Wis., several years after his return from the Civil war. The couple made their home on a farm, west of Monona, until 1891, when they retired to Monona. Mr. Sherman died Jan. 2, 1930.

Mrs. Sherman lived to experience four wars, and was able to recall many outstanding events in the history of her community.

Surviving are a daughter, Blanche A. Sherman, Monona; a grandson, Frank Sherman, Glen Haven, Wis.; and two great-grandsons.
