Monona, Ia. - Funeral services for Mrs. John Baade, 89, who died at her home here Friday, were held Monday at St. Paul's Evangelical Lutheran Church. The Rev. R.C. Schlueter, pastor, officiated. Burial was in the Monona City Cemetery.
She was one of the two remaining wives of veterans of the Civil War living in Monona.
Mrs. Baade, a daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Fred Hoth, was born in Griepswold, Germany, on March 4, 1855. When 13 years of age she emigrated to America with her parents who settled on a farm near Clayton Center, Ia.
On Dec. 30, 1876, she was married to John Baade. The couple made their home on a farm near Froelich, Ia. In 1913 they moved to a farm near Farmersburg, Ia., and in 1921 retired to Monona. Mr. Baade died in 1930.
Surviving are six daughters, Mrs. John Case, Mrs. Enoch Anderson, Mrs. Herb Hupfer, Mrs. Henry Kliefoth, Mrs. Fred Gilster, all of Monona, and Mrs. George Schmitt of Blunt, S.D.; five sons, William, Henry, Arthur, George of Monona, and Gus Baade of Burlington, Ia.; 18 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.
