--- --- --- ---

Many friends of the Gilbert and Tapper families in and about Postville are pained to learn of the sad affliction that has come to their home circle, in the death of Mrs. W.J. Tapper. Deceased was the greatly esteemed daughter of Frank Gilbert, and for a time attended school at this place.

Carrie May Gilbert was assistant in the Monona postoffice while her father was postmaster. When Postmaster Leithold took charge of the office here, she assisted in the transfer, and won many warm friends by her engaging manners.

January 6th, 1897, she was married to W.J. Tapper, and their outlook for a long and happy life seemed bright. But 'twas otherwise decreed, and Mr. Tapper is left with an infant son as a token of the love he has lost.

Deceased was born in Monona Aug. 23, 1876, and died Feb. 26, 1898. Rev. Kluse conducted the funeral service Tuesday afternoon. The grief stricken families have the heartfelt sympathy of all.
