Contributor: Connie Ellis (Family friend/not related)Andrea "Andi" D. Halverson, age 54, of Mason City, Iowa passed away peacefully Wednesday, June 20, 2007 at her home. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, June 23, 2007, at the St. James Lutheran Church with Pastor Paul C. Nelson and Pastor Tom Healey officiating. Interment will be in the Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. at the Major Erickson Funeral Home on Friday, June 22 and one hour prior to the funeral service on Saturday.
Andrea was born April 27, 1953 in Prairie du Chien, Wisconsin, the daughter of Donald E. and Dolores (Wilson) Sabbann. Andrea spent her early childhood years on the family farm on the edge of Monona, Iowa. She attended grade school in Monona and when her family relocated to the North Iowa area she attended middle school at Mason City with the majority of her high school years at Nora Springs, Iowa. She graduated from the Newton High School, Newton, Iowa in 1971. She attended the North Iowa Area Community College in Mason City. Andi married Richard Arden Halverson June 23, 1973 at the St.James Lutheran Church in Mason City. To this union were born two children.
Andi spent the last 31 years and majority of her career working in community banking with Corwith State Bank and Farmers State Bank. She served as Operations Officer, Cashier and board Secretary of Corwith State Bank as well as Vice President and Director of Farmers State Bank. Andi was a member of the North Central Land and Auction Company serving as an auction clerk at auctions throughout North Iowa. Andi served on the Corwith-Wesley-Luverne school board, served as treasurer at St. James Lutheran Church and was involved in many other community and youth activities. Most recently, she was involved with volunteer work for the American Cancer Society and several programs supporting breast cancer research. A special volunteer experience of Andi's was walking 60 miles with her daughter Kelli in November of 2006 at the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer 3-Day in Phoenix, Arizona which helps benefit Susah G. Komen for the cure to fund breast cancer research. Andi enjoyed spending time with her family and friends,and especially enjoyed being a Grandma. Some of her hobbies and interests included being outdoors enjoying her lawn and garden, caring for her animals and pets, especially her cat, Princess. Andi was an avid Iowa Hawkeye fan and enjoyed spending the past four years wintering in Arizona.
Andrea is survived by her husband, Rich Halverson of Mason City; daughter Kelli Halverson and fiance' Brad Anderson of Phoenix, Arizona; son Nate Halverson and wife Amy of Mason City, Iowa; grandchildren Taylor and Lauryn Halverson; parents Donald and Dolores Sabbann of Mason City; brother Brad Sabbann and wife Julie of Manly, Iowa; sisters-in-law Joann Deardeuff and husband Les of Rockwell, Iowa; Dixie Shanks of Portland, Oregon, and Linda Jolas and husband Tom of Mason City; many special aunts and uncles, nieces and nephews, and cousins; her cat, Princess and her banking family at Farmers State Bank and North Central Agency.
Andi was preceded in death by her grandparents and mother and father-in-law.
