Funeral services were held for Walter John Weiss, 78, Tuesday, July 21, 1992, at the Leonard-Witt Funeral Home, Elkader. Rev. Neal Solomonson officiated the service with burial in Garnavillo City Cemetery. Pallbearers were Terry Puelz, Kenneth Schmelzer, Carson Stocks, Jerry Weiss, Doug Weiss and Bob Hinzman.

Walter John Weiss was born September 11, 1913, at Garnavillo, the son of Herman E. and Charlotte (Ihde) Weiss. He grew up and was educated in the area attending school at Garnavillo. He was baptized and confirmed at St. Paul Lutheran Church, Garnavillo. He farmed in the area for a time until entering the United States Navy. He was honorably discharged August 26, 1943. He returned home where he farmed and later drove truck. He has been a resident at the Clayton County Care Facility for the past few years. After an extended illness, he died Sunday morning, July 19, 1992, at Central Community Hospital, Elkader.

Survivors include his sister, Mrs. Foster (Hildegard) Koth of Monona; and brother, Robert J. Weiss of Birmingham, Ala.

He was preceded in death by a brother, Herbert E. Weiss, and by his parents.
