Jacob Hansel was born at Frostburg, Md., Oct. 25th, 1820. at the age of twelve years he moved with his parents to Fayette county, Pa., where he resided until April 1850, when he came west, settling in Mallory township, Clayton county, where he entered government land, and cleared out a farm on which he continued to reside for over fifty-three years and until removed by death.
In 1840 he was married to Mary J. Harry. To this union there were born nine children, four sons and five daughters, of whom eight are still living, viz, Mrs. Chas. L. Stone, of Fayette Co.; Mrs. Clark Morley, of Manchester; Mrs. J. H. Hill, of Elkader; Mrs. R. H. Bush, of Osterdock; Geo. L. Hansel, of Elk twp.; Jas. T. Hansel, of Mallory, and Martha E. and Jacob G. Hansel, still at home.
Among his living descendants are also 37 grandchildren and 9 great-grandchildren.
About __ years ago he was united with the Cumberland Presbyterian church, of which he remained a member to the time of his death.
He died Dec. 3rd, 1903, aged 83 years, 1 month and 8 days. The remains being laid to rest on Saturday last by the side of those of his wife who had preceded him by about 25 years.
