MRS. BERNARD EILERS, SR.
Death came to Mrs. Bernard Eilers, Sr., at La Crosse, Wis., on Wednesday, April 2, 1924, at 9:00 p.m., at St. Francis hospital, where she had been receiving treatment for her health. Her age was 55 years, 6 months and 28 days.
Katherine Grawe was born Sept. 11, 1868, near Dyersville, Iowa and on June 12, 1888, she became the wife of Bernard Eilers of this city. They began housekeeping at the old Eilers homestead located about one mile south of this city, where were reared their family of ten children, and lived until 1922, when they moved to Guttenberg. A few months ago Mrs. Eilers underwent an operation for her health and seemed improved. A week or two ago she sought (sic) further relief from her ailments, but her death came as related above. She is survived by five daughters, Mesdames Alfred Pfiffner, Clarence Frommelt and Arthur Walter and Miss Frances Eilers of Guttenberg, and Mrs. Leo Kloser of North Buena Vista; five sons, Alois, Gregor, Cerenus, Leo and Martin, of Guttenberg; 16 grandchildren; five sisters; Mrs. Frank Ritz of Waterloo, Mrs. Henry Lueck of Dubuque, Mrs. George Deyen of Bellevue, Joseph Shutte and Jacob Huberty of Dyersville, and three brothers, Henry and Nick Grawe (sic) of Dyersville and Herman Grawe of Aurrora (sic), Iowa, besides many other relatives. Mrs. Eilers was a faithful member of St. Mary's Catholic church, and leaves a wide circle of sorrowing relatives and friends.
The funeral occurred on Monday, April 14, 1924, at 9:00 a.m., at St. Mary's Catholic church, Guttenberg, Iowa, and was conducted by Rev. J. H. Brinkman. Interment in St. (sic) Olivet cemetery.
Those who attended the funeral from out of town were: Mr. and Mrs. Jacob Huberty and family, Mr. and Mrs. Joe Schute and family, Mrs. Nick Grawe and Henry Grawe, of Dyersville; Mr. and Mrs. Henry Lueck and family, Miss Mildred Deyen, Mrs. John Eilers and Henry Eilers, of Dubuque; Mrs. Frank Ritz and son and Frank Rolfes of Waterloo; Herman Grawe of Aurora; Mrs. Geo. Rolfes and family of Garnavillo; and Mr. and Mrs. Geo. B. Deyen of Bellevue.
