Elkader Register, Thur., 20 Aug. 1903. Garnavillo column.
On Saturday, August 15th, at the home of his son, the spirit of Henry Luehsen, Sr., took flight, death being due to paralysis. He was born in Boessel, Germany, December 11th, 1823. On Nov. 7, 1850, he was joined in wedlock to Margaret Luers at Daverden, Germany. In 1854 they immigrated to this country settling first at Cincinnati where they remained ten years, working at his trade as a tailor for a large tailoring establishment. Then they came to Garnavillo, where he has since resided and worked at his trade up to the last week of his life.
Three children were born to this union: Herman, died on the voyage; Doris, wife of John Shierholz, died Feb. 26, 1876 and Henry of this place. The wife and mother preceded him April 8th, 1876.
Funeral occurred Monday at St. Paul's, interment in the new cemetery. The attendance was large and the floral offerings many and beautiful which thus showed the high regard in which he was held.
Peaceful be thy silent slumbers,
Peaceful in thy grave so low,
Thou no more will join our number,
Thou no more our sorrow know.Yet again we hope to meet thee,
When the day of life has fled,
And in Heaven with joy to greet thee,
Where no farewell tears are shed.Card of Thanks was signed by: Henry Luehsen, Jr., wife and son, Marvin.
