Funeral services were held for Dr. Francis C. "Doc" O'Donnell, 79, Strawberry Point, Wednesday, Feb. 11, 1998, at the United Methodist Church in Strawberry Point. Private burial* will be at a later date.

He was born the son of Walter and Frances Malloy O'Donnell in Colo, Iowa, May 22, 1918.

Doc graduated from Iowa State University in 1944 and moved to Strawberry Point in 1945. Doc's life was centered around his veterinary practice and his love of horses. He was inducted into the Horseman Hall of Fame in 1995 and was past vice president of the Northeast Iowa Saddle Club Association.

During his 53 years in Strawberry Point, Doc contributed to and participated in many community activities: American Legion, Lions, school board, Chamber of Commerce, Fire Department and Clayton County Conservation Board.

Doc was instrumental in starting the bowling alley, golf course and the first motel in Strawberry Point.

He died suddenly Sunday, Feb. 8, 1998, at his home in Strawberry Point.

Survivors include his wife, Joyce; daughter, Olivia "Ollie" Bruns (Bob); son Michael "Mike" O'Donnell (Sheri); stepson, Scott Weig (Cathy); and two grandsons, Michael Bruns (Joannie) and Patrick O'Donnell, all of Cedar Rapids; and a sister, Wally True of West Des Moines.

Doc was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, James O'Donnell; and a sister, Mary Jane Austerman.
