Garnavillo Press, Thur., 23 April 1903.
Mrs. Louisa Horsch, one of the early settlers of Guttenberg, died at her home here about 7 o'clock last Friday morning. Death was due to a paralytic stroke which she received about 2 o'clock that morning. This was the second stroke, she having suffered one last summer, but rallied and was feeling quite well up until the last attack.
Mrs. Horsch was born in (looks like Osonsbruck), Germany, and left there with her parents at the age of six years. At that time sailing vessels were mainly employed to transport passengers back and forth across the ocean, and which required several weeks time to make the trip, sometimes a vessel would be delayed for months in crossing the ocean. They landed at the port of New Orleans from where they went to Cincinnati, Ohio, where they resided about twelve years, and came from there to Guttenberg in the year 1845. Her husband, Jacob Horsch, died 1n 1845. She is survived by seven children, namely; William, J. (Looks like R.), Mrs. Henry Fricke, Robert, August, Emil and Maggie.
The funeral took place at 2 p.m. Sunday. All the children and immediate relatives were in attendance. W. H. Scholz made a few brief, but touching remarks at the residence and also at the cemetery.
