Elkader Argus, 28 Jan. 1903.

Died- On January 23rd, at the hospital for insane at Independence, occurred the death of James Lowe. Jimmie, as he was known by everyone, was a familiar character to all living on Volga bottom. He was born in Rock county, Wis., Sept. 16th, 1841, and coming to Clayton county with his parents in the month of June, 1847, and settling on a farm a mile or so west of town, he had become an old settler. He was always as a small child in intellect, harmless and quiet and of a religious nature, always through good or bad weather attending Sabbath School and church. He was so delighted with the cards and papers. During his last sickness he became so violent that it was thought necessary to take him to the asylum and on Friday his brother, D. Lowe, accompanied him there and on Monday morning word came of his death. The remains were shipped here Monday and the funeral held Tuesday afternoon at the Presbyterian church, Rev. McCuskey delivering the sermon. If everyone was as pure and sinless and as ready for the next world as he, what a world it would be. He leaves two sisters, Mrs. Jellings and Mrs. Tenney, who did all they could ere they let him go. He also leaves two brothers, J. Lowe, of Kansas, and David Lowe, of this place.
