Elkader Register, Thur., 31 Jan. 1907. Garnavillo column.

Henrietta Emma Wahls, nee Ziemann, was born in Jefferson township on the 23rd of February, 1863. She was confirmed in Read on the 15th of March, 1877, and was married to Henry Wahls Dec. 20, 1881. They began housekeeping on the parental Wahls farm, where they have resided up to the present time.

Mrs. Wahls' health began to fail about fourteen years ago. Two years later a severe nervous weakness afflicted her and for the last four years she was confined to her bed and invalid's chair. She was a patient sufferer, however, and even at the last entertained hopes of recovery. Her family and friends admired her Christian fortitude and administered to her with untiring and loving hands, their favors and kindnesses being never ungratefully received.

She passed away calmly and peacefully Thursday, the 24th inst., at one o'clock p.m., thus having reached an age of 43 years, 11 months and 1 day.

The funeral, which was largely attended, was conducted by Mr. Luehsen, and the religious services by Rev. F. Linnenbuerger, at Read. The Garnavillo St. Paul's church choir sang the appropriate songs at the house, church and grave. Deceased was gowned in a beautiful white shroud and many fragrant cut flowers adorned her casket.

The survivors are her husband, Henry Wahls, and five children, viz: Eveline, Amanda, married to Joe Matt residing near Presho, S.D., John, Hattie and Henry. Three children, Almira, Hubert and Reuben preceded the mother in death. Her father, John Ziemann, residing in Grand Meadow township, and the following four sisters, Mrs. Geo. Tomas, of Idaho, Iowa, Mrs. Otto Weber, of Clay Co., Iowa, Mrs. Fritz Wilke, of Dallas Co., Iowa, and Mrs. August Kugel, of Grand Meadow township, Iowa, and one brother, Albert Ziemann, of Grand Meadow twp., also survive.
