Louis Eberhardt passed away Sunday, February 07, 2016, at the Guttenberg Municipal Hospital, Guttenberg, IA.

Louis “Louie” William Eberhardt was born on August 16, 1961, in Prairie du Chein, WI; the second of four children to LuVern and Lucille Eberhardt. Louie spent his entire life in the Elkader area. He was baptized at Zion in Clayton Center and confirmed at Peace Church in Elkader.

He loved the land, the farm and, raising beef cattle. He preferred older tractors which he enjoyed working on and the history behind them. Louie also enjoyed informational programs, reading and learning about (world) war history and watching westerns or old time TV shows.

Early in his work life he milked cows and worked as a farm hand. He started to work on machinery in high school and then worked for Clayton County Secondary Roads and raised beef cattle. He was the Roadside manager and Weed Commissioner for Clayton County until retiring early when his health began to fail and his battle with colon cancer began.

On October 9, 1993, he was united in marriage to Theresa Elaine (Berger) Eberhardt. Three children were born to this union; Darci, a freshman at UNI, Kristi a sophomore and James a 7th grader at Central Community School in Elkader. The family attends Grace Lutheran Church, Prairie du Chien, WI.

Louie is remembered for his witty humor and his enjoyment in teasing his nieces and nephews. He enjoyed Euchre and Rummy along with Yatzee, Monopoly and other family games. He looked forward to an annual fishing trip to Minnesota with his in-laws and would man the front anchor of the pontoon then attempt to not be out fished. He would lend a helping hand whenever needed.

Louie was preceded in death by his grandparents; father and two cousins.

He leaves behind his wife; his three children; his mother; siblings; an aunt; many cousins; nieces and nephews along with numerous friends.

Funeral Service: 11:00 AM February 12, 2016 at Grace Evangelical Lutheran Church - Prairie du Chien, WI
Interment: February 12, 2016 at Zion Lutheran Cemetery, Clayton Center, Iowa
