Wayne Thilon (Skinny) Smith was born March 17, 1913 in Elkport, Iowa to Samuel and Mary (Hansel)Smith. He graduated from Edgewood High School in 1932.

On November 21, 1936 he was united in marriage to Joyce Culbertson at Wood, Iowa. One son was born to the union.

He and his wife lived in Charles City, Iowa for a time and later moved to Edgewood where he farmed and also was employed by Livingston Implement.

After an extended illness, Wayne died Saturday morning, June 4, 1988 at his home in Edgewood, Iowa. He was 75 years old.

Survivors include his wife Joyce of Edgewood; one son Gary and wife Joyce of Marion, Iowa; 3 grandsons: David Joe Smith of Apple Valley, MN; Alan Smith of Dubuque, Iowa; and Randy Smith of Marion, Iowa. Also, 2 brothers; Huston of Oelwein, Iowa and John of Edgewood, Iowa.

Preceding him in death were his parents; 5 sisters, Ruby Smith, Hattie Hansel, Ida Franks, Margaret Ortman and Iowa Ash; and 3 brothers: Winey, Ernest and George.

Funeral services were held Tuesday, June 7 1988 at 11:00 a.m., Trinity United Methodist Church, Edgewood, IA, Pastor Kathryn McDougal was the officiating pastor. Gladys Holthaus organist, Karen Franks soloist sang, The Old Rugged Cross and In the Graden. Casket bearers were Lawrence Smith, Larry Ash, Richard Franks, Owen Franks, Walter Ortman and Floyd Smith. Burial: Mt Harmony Cemetery, rural Elkport, Iowa.
