Nicholas F. Errthum, 62, of North Buena Vista, died Monday, April 10, 2006, at his home after a courageous battle with cancer.
Friends called from 3:00 - 9:00 p.m. Wednesday, at Kramer Funeral Home in Holy Cross.
Funeral services were held at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, at Immaculate Conception Church in North Buena Vista, with burial in the church cemetery. Officiating was Rev. Marvin Bries. Lector was Theresa Taylor. Carol, Rodney and Karen Errthum and Kim and Dan Ludovissy did placing of the pall. Pallbearers were Linda Ludovissy, Debbie Pottebaum, Wendy Ulbrich, Dave Errthum, Mark Hayes and Pete Taylor.
Nick was born on Dec. 6, 1943, in Holy Cross, the son of Leo and Frances (Hefel) Errthum. Nick hauled milk and worked for Vorwald Construction after his formal education and began driving truck for the Dubuque Packing Company, Shanno Transpotation and finally for Horsfield Construction. He married Carol Schultz on July 8, 1967 in Holy Cross, and settled on a small acreage, "The Errthum Valley Ponderosa," in North Buena Vista.
Nick's favorite pastime was horseback riding, but he also enjoyed hunting, camping, fishing or anything outdoors. He enjoyed spending time reminiscing with his family and he was a very loving husband, father, grandfather and brother.
Survivors include his wife, Carol, a son Rodney (Karen) Errthum and a daughter, Kim (Dan) Ludovissy, all of Holy Cross; Papa will be greatly missed by his four grandchildren, Molly and Wyatt Errthum and Logan and Dylan Ludovissy; four brothers: Leon (Elaine), Allen (Carol) both of Dubuque, Jerome (Marlene) of Sherrill and Ed (Deb) of Holy Cross; four sisters, Gen Pike of Houston, Texas, Mary (Richard) Hayes of Glencoe, Minn., Kathy Rudebeck of Dallas, Texas and Barb (John) Taylor of Holy Cross; a sister-in-law, Phyllis Errthum of Holy Cross and his mother-in-law, Emma Schultz of Holy Cross; brothers-and-sisters-in-law: Janice (Robert) LeGrand, Sherry (Marvin) Klein, Ronald (Marilyn) Schultz, Cindy (Paul) Ludovissy, LaVonne (Earl) Brimeyer, Donna (Robert) Schmidt, Connie (James) Klein and Dave (Nancy) Schultz; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his infant daughter, Lori; his parents; brothers Donald (Carol) and Robert; father-in-law, Clarence Schultz; and brother-in-law, Wayne Rudebeck
