Elkader Register, Thur., 12 Feb. 1920.

Bertha Hoffman, nee Ewald, was born on Dec. 30th, 1876 in Pomerania, Germany. In the year 1884 she came with her father and two brothers to America. She was instructed in the Doctrines of the Lutheran church in Dodge county, Wis. Subsequent to her fathers death, deceased came to Worth county, Iowa.

In the year 1895 she was married to Mr. Henry Hoffman. After a stay of fifteen years on the farm in Worth county she came with her family to Elkport, Iowa. Here her health began to fail and during seven years of sickness her youthful life was completely undermined. She passed away at her home last Monday, reaching the age of forty-four years, one month and three days.

She leaves to mourn her loss: her husband, two brothers and six children. The brothers are: Carl Ewald of Northwood, Ia., and August Ewald of Junian, Wis.

Interment was made at the Luth. cemetery at Elkport on Friday, the minister of the Elkport church officiating.
