Amy Jo (Mrs. John) McDonnell, 93, of Charles City, formerly of Elkader, died Saturday evening, Aug. 20, 1994, in the hospice room at the Floyd County Memorial Hospital, Charles City.

A funeral mass for Amy Jo McDonnell will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, Aug. 24, 1994, at St. Joseph's Catholic Church at Elkader. Rev. Thomas Rhomberg will officiate the service with burial in the St. Joseph's Cemetery at Elkader. Honorary pallbearers are Dr. Pat Donlon and Dr. E. L. Bowker. Pallbearers are Luke Donlon, Joe Donlon, Jerry Donlon, Gary Updegraf, Clair Caudill and Jason McDonnell.

Amy Jo Donlon McDonnell was born June 10, 1901, at Elkader, Iowa, the daughter of Dr. J. P. and Amie (Meyer) Donlon. She graduated from Elkader High School in 1919 and attended Clarke College in Dubuque. On July 10, 1934, she and John J. McDonnell were married in the St. Joseph's Catholic Church at Elkader. She worked as a dental assistant for many years, first for her father in Elkader and then for two dentists in Clinton. She was a member of the Immaculate Conception Church and the St. Joseph's Circle in Charles City, as well as the Daughters of the American Revolution.

Survivors include a son, J. Patrick and his wife, Susan McDonnell of Charles City; two grandchildren, Jason and Sara McDonnell of Charles City; two sisters-in-law, Cecil Donlon and Monica Donlon, both of Elkader; three nephews and six nieces.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband in 1943; and two brothers, Jack and Lucian.
