Eugene J. Powers, 75, died Friday, July 9, 2004, at his home near Guttenberg.

Visitation was Sunday, July 11, from 2:00 - 7:00 p. m. at Tuecke-Allyn Funeral Home and Cremation Service, Guttenberg.

Services were conducted by Rev. Marvin Bries at 10:30 a.m. Monday, July 12, at St. Mary Catholic Church in Guttenberg. Casket bearers were John Kann, Brian Kann, Ron Moser, Larry Friedlein, Jeff Friedlein and Bob Walke. Honorary bearers were Dick Heiden, Curt Schroeder, Verdus Schroeder, Marvin Pedretti, Bill Sheber and Dennis Simon.

Interment was in St. Mary's Cemetery, Guttenberg.

Eugene J. Powers was born the son of Edmond and Coletta (McQuillan) Powers, May 8, 1929, in Guttenberg.

Eugene graduated from St. Mary's School, Guttenberg, served his country in the United States Army during the Korean Conflict and farmed with his family for many years. He was a member of Eagles Aerie #4114 and Knights of Columbus Council 4148. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, cards, bird watching, traveling, gambling and cooking.

On May 8, 1954, he was united in marriage with Betty Kolash at Holy Trinity Church in LaCrosse, Wis.

Survivors include his wife, Betty; two daughters, Judy (Daniel) Nielsen of St. Olaf and Mary Powers of Tacoma, Wash; two sons, Patrick Powers of Guttenberg and Royce (Jeanie) Hansel of Elkader; nine grandchildren, Holly (Tim) Wille, Molly (Wade) Krambeer, Jessica, Matthew, Joshua, Natasha, Tammy (Joe) Sylvester, Tim (Sheri) Hansel and Talisa (Darrin) Troester; two great-grandchildren, Mary Katherine and Madeline Wille; and father-in-law, Leo Kolash of Guttenberg

He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Maurice; and one granddaughter, Tina.
