Funeral services were held for Orietta Helenora Benson, 83, Thursday, Nov. 21, 1985, at Norway Lutheran Church, St. Olaf. Rev. Keith Klemm and Rev. William Straka officiated the service. Burial was in Norway Lutheran Cemetery. Pallbearers were Gene Kamin, Lee Embretson, Don Dutka, Carroll Rugland, Alonzo Engelhardt and Ervin Rugland.
Orietta Benson was born April 24, 1902, in Wagner Township, Clayton County, the daughter of Ole M. and Helen (Helgeson) Benson. She was baptized and confirmed at Norway Lutheran Church, attended the local rural schools, and graduated from Waldorf College in 1922. Later she entered the School of Nursing at the Lutheran Hospital in LaCrosse, Wis. After receiving her RN in 1927 she worked in California several years.
When the Bethany Home for Aged, in LaCrosse was established she was first Director of Nursing in the home. She worked in this capacity for ten years before retiring in 1967. After undergoing heart surgery in 1980, she went to live in the Lutheran Home at Strawberry Point where her death occurred Monday evening, Nov. 18, 1985.
Survivors include a sister Marinda Streich of LaCrosse, Wis.; a brother, Perry Benson of Farmersburg; two nieces and a nephew.
Preceding her in death were her parents and three sisters, Janet, Cora Rugland, and Mildred.
