Elkader Register, Fri., 15 Sept. 1882.
On Monday morning last, August Meisner, the ten year old son of Ernest Meisner, of this township, left his father's house with the team, to engage in some work on the farm, in good spirits, little thinking of the cruel death that was in store for him.
About noon he started for home, but finding that one of the reins had caught upon the haims, he walked out upon the wagon tongue to unfasten it. In doing so he started the horses, and was thrown under them, the wagon passing over him, breaking his left arm and leg, and inflicting internal injuries.
Drs. Wheeland and Kraft were called and done everything that seemed possible to relieve his sufferings, but all in vain. August died on Tuesday morning.
The funeral services occurred Wednesday afternoon from the M.E. church in Elkader, Rev. Seifert officiating. The deceased being followed to his last earthly home in East Side Cemetery by a large cortege of sorrowing friends and relatives.
