Mrs. Effie Cecile Hansel, 85, of Elkader, formerly of the Garber area, died Sunday morning, Feb. 19, 1984, at the Elkader Care Center.
Services are scheduled for 11 a.m. Wednesday at Peace United Church of Christ in Elkader and are to be conducted by the Rev. Dr. Gene A. Becker. Burial will be in the Hansel Cemetery, rural Garber, with the following pallbearers: Howard Harris, Harley Akers, Glen "Bud" Harris, Everett Hansel, Gordon Elliff and James Akers. Honorary pallbearers are Gerald Swisher and Gus Wolff.
Visitation was at the Witt Funeral Home in Elkader.
Mrs. Hansel was a daughter of Lemul Harris and Matilda Hyde Harris and was born in Mallory Township, Clayton County, on Nov. 29, 1898. She was married Dec. 27, 1927 in Galena, Ill., to Cedric Hansel, who preceded her in death on Sept. 10, 1965. The couple farmed in the Garber area, and after his death, Mrs. Hansel moved to Elkader.
She is survived by one daughter, Florine Hansel of Elkader; three brothers, Clifford Harris of Waterloo, Arthur Harris of Oelwein and DeWayne Harris of Dubuque; three sisters, Mrs. Opal Harbaugh of Guttenberg, Mrs. Thelma Smith of Strawberry Point and Mrs. Berniece Smith of Cedar Rapids. She was preceded by her parents and two brothers.
