Obituary.

John DeWitt Wright, the youngest child of John F. and Anna (Smith) Wright, was born in National, Iowa, on March 25, 1883. The greater portion of his life was spent in the neighborhood of his birthplace, where in the years of his manhood he was engaged in agricultural pursuits, excepting a few years spent in the employ of the St. Olaf Creamery Company. In the latter occupation he served his patrons most acceptably and added many friends to the circle of those left to mourn his untimely death. In his decease the community has lost a valued member, who had scarcely more than reached the threshold of a life of promising usefulness, and his family has been deprived of the counsel and guidance of a kind husband and father. Never of rugged health he was stricken with diabetes near the beginning of last year. Against the inroads of this disease he made a courageous struggle, but finally succumbed to its insidious attack on the morning of July 4, 1921.

On August 2nd, 1904 he was united in marriage to Miss Mary Maker, of Clayton, who survives him. Those mourning his loss are his widow, his children, named May B., Walter F., Viola C., Clifford J., and Clinton D., his brother, David A. Wright of National, his sister, Mrs. Carrie B. Jones, of Waterloo, and numerous other relatives and friends.

The funeral on Wednesday afternoon was held at the family residence and was largely attended. Friends from McGregor, Monona, St. Olaf, Garnavillo and Guttenberg came to pay their last respects to the young man, whose quiet genial manner and peaceful disposition had made him a friend of all. The services were conducted by Rev. K. W. Braun, assisted by the singingly of solacing hymns by the Garnavillo Quintette Club.

[TRANSCRIBER'S NOTE: His father's name is given as "John T. Wright" in the obituary of his sister Ella Wright, also posted at this site. It is unclear which initial is correct.]
