FORMER NATIONAL GIRL PASSES AWAY
Funeral of Ella Maud Wright at Old Home Friday
Ella Maud Wright, the second child of John T. and Ann (Smith) Wright, was born June 14, 1871 on a farm near Winterset, in Madison county, Iowa. When about a year old her parents resumed residence in National, where the major portion of her life was spent; the exceptions were four years of residence in North Dakota near Wilton and the past three years in the hospital at Independence, where she died on the morning April 16. For upwards of ten years she had been a great sufferer from arthritis, which in time completely undermined her health and rendered her a helpless invalid.
In early womanhood she united with the Methodist Episcopal church, of which she was ever a consistent and exemplary member. Her gentle and amiable disposition endeared her to all who knew her. In faithful service for her family she spent the active period of her life, and she will always be remembered as a most devoted daughter and sister. The near relatives, who are left to honor her memory, are her aged father, her sister, Carrie, Mrs. Jerome Jones of Mount Vernon, Iowa, her two brothers, David A. and John D. and their wives, also eight nephews and five nieces.
Her funeral services, conducted by Rev. D. C. Perry, of McGregor, were held form the family residence in National on Friday afternoon, five of her nephews, assisted by Ernest Werger, acting as pall-bearers.
